Nearpod:Activating your class!
Week 9: 💣Nearpod:Activating your class!
💤Introduction
With the advert of advanced technology, the teaching approaches have been developed in many ways. In this blog post, I am willing to introduce the audience one effective tool for designing creative classroom and engage students more in the English class.
💥What is Nearpod
Nearpod is transforming teaching and learning experiences through technology with relevant 21st-century skills and content, in which users can create engaging lessons with informative and interactive assessment activities.
💧Target audience
Actually, Nearpod allows both teachers and learners to use and interact with each other. However, in this blog, I will focus on "how teachers can adopt this into English classroom". Thus the main attention is paid to creating classroom activities for students.
💦How to use Nearpod in the class: From the perspective of educators
The primary mode of Nearpod in classroom is that the teacher design and choose teaching materials in advance and share them to the students who have had Nearpod accounts, in which way they can finish the teaching tasks together and also interact with each other. Here, I will give you some instructions about how to start your Nearpod.
💨Step 1: "Log in" or "Sign up for free"
(Search for: https://nearpod.com/login/)
💨Step 2: "Create the lesson"
💭Step 3: "Add slide"
In this stage, you are provided with three options: Add content, add web content and add activities. If you are a beginner, I advise you to choose the first one.
💨Step 4: Edit your content
In this section, I will take "add content" as an example to illustrate how to put your teaching materials into it. As you can see from the following picture, there are many choices for you but similarly the most common one is the first item: "Slide".
After pressing the "slide", you can edit your materials as you want.

💋Why I think it useful for English learning
- Get rid of traditional teaching approach and creative stimulating classroom environment
- Teachers have more access to prepare teaching materials in advance and give students visual and audio exposure.
- Teachers can design different kinds of class activities, for example students can be divided into several groups and have a competition by quiz.
💔Limitations:
- The users may pay for certain versions.
- If adopted into classroom, students are required to bring electronic devices into classroom.

This is really a cool technological tool and I really love the design of this blog. I'm thinking about how to use this tool with young learners considering the safety issue since they may be requested to go outside of the class. Do you have any suggestion?.
